I'm trying to move my bees to small-cell comb and added some into the brood nest this weekend. A few hours after, I noticed considerably more bees than usual doing orientation flights. Does rearranging their comb cause them to reorient?
Graduating from nurse bee to forager causes them to orient. A pickup in number translates to a pickup in laying a few weeks back or a higher demand for foragers because of a pick up in laying...wait, I just said that...
With my hives, I watch them all day long from my office. Like clockwork, every day between 2:30 - 3:30 in the afternoon, orienteering classes are in session. For me, they do it regardless of if I am in the hive at that time, or was just there moving comb about. We are in the same area - curious what time of day you noticed it.
