Day 32. 11 well established combs. Everything looks good to me. I installed a spare TB in front of the follower but didn't get in in all the way. There is a 1/2 inch by 1 3/8 inch gap at one end and the bees seem to love it as an entrance. There is usually a traffic jam at each of the 3/4 inch holes I drilled in the front end. Is there a down side to leaving the gap on the TB in front of the follower?

Is there some reason I should close off the rear entrance?
Last year I had side entrance holes, and when it got hot, I made a small rear entrance to let out the heat. I did not screen it. I ended up with robbing that took me longer to figure out that it was going on.

I have extra holes I open to increase ventilation. Once it gets hot, and if the colony is strong enough to defend it, I'll start opening them up. If the bees like the rear entrance, I'd leave it. If it's well used, there will be guards to defend it. Just keep your eye on it.
