yesterday I did a cut-out..I brought the bees home and decided to add them to a weak , queenless hive I have. put the newspaper on top of the old hive, and added the new bees......this was at about 3 pm....at 7 pm, I went out to check on them. before, they were all over the top super bearding around the entrance(i put a crack in the lid for a top entrance) well, I didn't see any around the entrance, but I didn't open the top. I was just about to leave when I noticed a few bees on the side of the inner cover sitting beside the hive(leaning against the fence) I check it out, and discovered the whole hive hanging on the back of the inner cover!
I put them back in again. this morning I'm at work and wondering if I have a hive of bees to go home to...

BUT, my question is....since they were in a huge ball hanging from the back of the inner cover, does this mean I have a queen? I mean, they wouldn't all congregate like that outside of the hive body without a queen, would they?

"...does this mean I have a queen..."
most likely, but never certain.
"...they wouldn't all congregate like that..."
they may be hot, or lost. best bet is an inner feeder.
good luck,mike
