I bought one of the Kelly mating nucs, the kind that is a divided deep. I cut it down to a medium, but it looks like there isn't a bee space under the frames.

The floor was nailed onto the bottom of the nuc, so I took it off, then cut it to 6 5/8 inches high. I'm ready to put the floor back on, but the lack of bee space bothers me. It is 1/8 of an inch, at most.

Question : Should I but a 1/2 inch spacer on the bottom board before nailing it back on?

Thanks guys! I tried it, but I forgot about the dado for the dividers. My wood working shop is not set up to fix these kind of things right now, so I'll try it with the spacer for now.

I bought this from Kelly. It was a deep, I just cut it down to a medium. Seems like it would have had the same problem with the deep frames as the medium frames. Of course, Kelly's frames may not be a bit less in height than the frames I buy locally.

Anyway, I'll get it taken care of soon.

Michael,

I thought of that before cutting it down and measured it myself. It was 9 1/2 inches deep (the catalog says 9 9/16 inches deep, I guess I didn't read the tape that closely). I just wasn't thinking clearly and blindly followed what they had to convert to a medium.

Since I have the piece I cut off, I'll cut a 3/4 inch slice off of it and use it as the spacer on the bottom board.

Live and learn. Or is it you learn from your mistakes. Or People how don't make mistakes, don't learn.
