What is the correct way to install the wired foundation? Is the bend in the wire suppose to be at the top bar or at the bottom of the frame?

Top. The bent part of the wire goes between the underside of the top bar and the wedge. The wedge is then nailed to the underside of the top bar, which holds the foundation in place.

I suppose I have the wedge type I had to break out the piece of wood then nailed it back on top of the foundation.

Sounds like you have the sedge type of top bar. The hooks (bent wire) go under the wedge and then nail back in place.

cross-wire deep wax foundation if you want straight combs.
I have heard of using fishing line to "cross-wire." Has anyone done this & does it work? I have not cross-wired any frames yet...guess I should. I will need to do this to all frames...deeps & mediums?

I use wire and only wire the two center holes on deeps that have wired foundation. I do not use mediums but will wire shallows that I use for extraction. I have never used fishing line but from what I have read most do not like it.
