I know in Illinois we have to register our hives. How accurate or up to date does this have to be? If I make a split or a hive dies is there a time limit on getting the form filed with the state? Thank you.

I wouldn't worry about trying to keep hive counts updated, with a number of hives the actual number is constantly changing through losses, splits, sales, swarms, etc. The registration update comes out every fall in the Nov/Dec timeframe and I give them an annual "snap shot in time." Mike Gerard is your regional apiary inspector, I'll send a PM with his contact info, give him a call or email if you want a more official response.

Thanks Eikel. I thought that was how it would be, common sense wise, but laws and common sense don't always intersect. Got the PM.
