Made 13 splits almost five weeks ago. Ten have good brood patterns but three did not requeen. Not laying workers yet. So after this time will they accept a queen or should I just go ahead and do a newspaper combine on one of the queenright boxes?
In my limited experience I found that newspaper combining of colonies that failed to requeen was the best solution. They can still be requeened but I found they required the addition of capped brood and bees to have a decent chance of building up. If you have those extra resources you could try again but I would just combine them. 10 out of 13 is good % either way though I can't wait to start making some queens this summer. It's my favorite part of beekeeping.
