So i realize it is getting close to swarm season in my area. Went in 2 of my hives today and saw cups. Tore them down and there were no eggs. Is the time to split now? Don't want to wait until they are cells. Both hives have a 10 frame deep brood chamber with a med. suprer chalk full of bee's. Queen still has room to lay. .

Ohh and i learned something today. If your queen is laying in the honey super make sure you check them as well for cups.

In my experience they are most likely to build queen cells hanging down into the gap between boxes.

You can split if you have drones. You'll generally always have queen cups here and there but you're right to keep an eye on things. A colony can get into a swarming mood real quick this time of year.
