I made a split two weeks ago. There are five queen cells on one frame. Four of the queen cells are clustered together and one is several inches away. I was wondering if I could make a small (maybe 2" x 2") screen one-sided cage over the one queen cell. If she emerges first or the others do, the first queen out cannot get to the other cells to kill them all. That will leave two queens in the hive - one loose and one under the cage. Will the nurse bees feed both new queens? I will move the frame with the queen under the cage to a new hive with bees and brood from an older strong hive. Will this idea work? Based on when I made the split, the queens should emerge in a day of so.
