I have given up using pesticides in my yard and am getting used to the ants and mosquitoes. However, now it seems that yellow jackets have made a nest in an exterior wall of my home. I hate to think I have to wait until Winter for them to die as they have already stung my wife and my dogs. My house is an old wooden mill house so there are lots of gaps everywhere and now the nasties have found their way inside too. Any suggestions as to how to kill them? Would a bee suit offer enough protection if I were to drill a hole in the wall to get at the nest? If I have to, I guess I'll hire an exterminator and tell him to stay away from my hives.

Soapy water makes quick work of them. A teaspoon of dish soap, a wand garden sprayer and spray away. The bubbles get onto their faces and forms bubbles that cause the YJs to suffocate.

You could also bait them. Using fish, meet, bacon, etc hung over the top of some water with dish soap but spraying may work faster.

Yes, a bee suit can protect you; it's worked for me in the past in any case.

search yj traps and yellow jackets in these archives. there are lots of ideas there. i use the yellow plastic pheremone traps, and bait them every few days with the oldest meat from my freezer. they kill hives here. i would be comfortable going after a nest in a beesuit, but i'd have something lethal in my hand.
