Went out to check on the hives today, made myself wait after checking them days 0, 0.5, 1, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2 and 2.5
...today is day 7 after package install into home made TBH.
Hive 1
Beautiful straight comb, these girls are doing GREAT. Couldn't ask for a more picture perfect hive, watched the queen for awhile, saw eggs and they have already built on 7 bars. Just great.
Hive 2
Knew there was a problem the second I tried to pry apart a bar. This hive built the queen cage in on day 2 and I lost a whole comb taking it out. The ENTIRE HIVE was cross combed. It was a mess!

I didn't know what to do, but I do know after reading that if you let it go, it only gets worse. So I did what any ambitious new BEEK would do, tried to fix it. Well that didn't work. The comb was so soft and fragile that I couldn't get it to stick back to the bar, I've tried tape, zip its...it was hopeless. In the end, I was able to reorient 2 combs to somewhat straight and removed the rest.
I'm heart broken, they worked SO HARD, the comb looks great, eggs, pollen, nectar....I don't know what to do with it. Can I reattach it? Suggestions would be nice...its so heavy from the nectar that I don't see any way to logistically reconnect it. (Old comb I imagine is much easier to work with). I've taken pics so you can see the difference between what hive one looks like and the surely disaster I created with hive 2.
I never saw the queen in hive 2
, I looked and looked, but didn't see her (she's marked). I really hope I didn't smash her...the bees did have eggs and their butts were in the air, so that was reassuring.
