I am a newbee and my backyard hive seems to be doing well. My question concerns my vegetable garden and my lawn. In the past, BB (before bees) this time of year, I would treat the lawn for ants and fleas since I also have four dogs, and I would occasionally treat the garden for pests. I certainly don't want to do anything to harm my girls. Do any of you know what I might use that would not be detrimental? Thank you in advance.

I think beekeeping is going to adjust your attitude. A lot of people have been brainwashed into killing every insect in their yard. I think you'll find that few beekeepers do.

Bees are most at risk from blooms that have been treated with insecticides. Grass itself isn't of much interest to bees, but blooming dandelions are (assuming your grass may have dandelions).

What ant & flea control products did you use in the past? I don't have dogs, but my understanding is that products like Frontline will control fleas and ticks on dogs without treating the yard itself.
