I was reading about foundationless frames on M. Bush website and was wondering if overwintering on foundationless is more successful than using plastic foundation. My theory is that during a winter coldsnap the cluster could simply chew through the foundationless to get to stores on the other side.

A mouse might chew through the comb but not the bees. They will move over the comb.
