Yesterday it was above freezing and another freeze and more snow expected this weekend. So I decided to pop the tops and check sugar supplies.

Three hives were nearly out so I gave them a bit more. The others still had sugar left. Thirteen hives had bees all over above the frames and on the sugar. Two had no activity on top of the frames or on the sugar. I could see active bees in some of the bee space between the hives. There were some bees flying..they were bringing in orange coloured pollen.

I checked the bottom entrances and there was no accumulation of dead bees.

Hopefully they will make it over the next 3 weeks as by mid March weather should be improving.

Fingers crossed.

This is an anxious time of year isn't it?

Ya just can't fix everything or save them all. What you do matters. Worry about it never helps unless it leads you correct a problem. I haven't pulled a frame on a live hive since October! I am apprehensive too!
