I am starting two new packages and installing two nucs on Saturday. I saw a youtube video or two on open feeding. Is it best to use hive feeders on the new packages, or is open feeding a good option? I searched and didnt find much on the topic, so I just wondered what are the pros and cons of open feeding? And if it is a good option, how far from the hives should you place your open feeder?

More important using a top feeder helps stop robbing and you can see how much feed your bees are taking. Also open feeding is just a train wreck waiting to happen.

With two hives there is no reason for open feeding. Usually open feeding is done when you have to get feed on lots and lots of colonies in a holding area. It's easy but not really the best way to feed.
