This afternoon while gardening near my hives I noticed both of my hives had a smell like grass clippings that have been left in a pile. There is goldenrod but we get no fall honey and I have never saw a bee on a golden rod around here. Any experience with this? Thanks

Hi BeeGirl. Tomorrow walk out to the patch of golden rod and grab a handfull of flowers, crush them in between your hands rubbing hands back and forth then stick your nose into the crushed flowers and take a good whiff--that is what golden rod honey smells like as the bees evaporate it down.
