think of nucs as spare tires --- every car and truck should have one !!!

its just a back up plan ---

in july i make up 20 nucs and place queen cells in them - - come late August I re- queen with the best queen of that -

but thats why I have lots of nucs -

also its cheap income on my part if i have a new beekeeper in the area

Honeybeealex, it's a good idea to keep a couple of nuc boxes ready with bees or ready to have bees dropped in. Getting use to having a couple of nucleus hives around will save a lot of money in the long run. And Concrete-Bees is right about added income, if you can save yourself the cost of queens and sell a couple nucs a year it can more than pay for the extra equipment.

Been collecting swarms and putting in 5 frame deep NUCS. Will a NUC of this size make it thru the winter here in North Centeral Texas?

if you are putting swarms in 5 framers - id rotate out frames as they draw them - they are going to draw out 7-10 frames worth of wax asap - if left with only 5 frames - thats a lot of wasted wax !!!!! -- get it while you can !!!!!

just an idea that i like to call FREE BEES FREE WAX
