I was wondering what size the cluster should be when going into winter? What is a acceptiable size comeing out of winter to have success from the next year? I am looking at a 4 over 4 configureation.

Take a look at pics from Lauri or Michael palmer how nucs should look. Feeding can help quit a bit.

I have a few nucs wintering....all I want is for them to survive thru winter in spring. After that I and mother nature can build them up to deep boxes.

POPPY - Thanks, that gives me a idea of what to look for as a new bee keeper.

My single medium has just a tad fewer bees than that on top, but it had another medium on top full of honey as well.

Do appreciate the photos!
