I'm going to build some nucs using the plastic entrance disks. Should I stick with a round bored hole, or try to cut a triangular entrance hole to match the quadrant shape? I've got a bunch of standard nucs with the regular open entrance. I just thought I would try these.

Are you making deeps or mediums?
I wish the disks I have were smaller for use with mediums. I may cut them down on a jigsaw.

I'm putting together some medium nuc boxes and I'll be drilling entrances into some of them. I'm adding cleats/handles that are angled down slightly... they are also mounted a little lower so I can drill the entrance above the handle. This way, the handle also serves as a small landing board. The holes will be drilled at an angle to shed rain.
I often read that people are drilling 3/4 and 1" holes... But 7/8" is close to the size of a wine cork.
For me, a hole that can be pluged easily will work best.

Check out WT Kelley - they have a metal entrance disk that looks to be much smaller than the colored plastic disks.

Those are much smaller!
The plastic ones I have are 7 9/16" in diameter.
I can trim them down to 4 1/2" dia. and still cover a 1" hole easily.
The full plastic ones could cover a 2 3/8" hole!
