I've found the big box store don't carry it but the Ace Hardware, DIY Centers, etc are the best bet and you can by just a few yards at a time. Hit your local mom and pop type store and ask for it, my supplier stores it in the basement and doesn't even keep a sample upstairs.
1/8" mesh and 24 inch x 100 foot rolls are available online for about $90. I get the 24 inch width, and for screen bottoms, I use the selvage edge along the landing board. This yields a 3 inch scrap. (which I use for miscellaneous needs). So I prefer the 24 inch width. I will sell 10 or 20 foot lengths to club members. But the rolls go quick if you are building equipment.
I've ordered from amazon it's ok, sometimes the quality is poor. The mesh is nowhere near strait/square quite wavy. Makes it a bit harder cutting it down, but still doable. I found the best stuff strait from a small time hardware store, I have to order a month ahead of time, but it's at a great price and always good quality.
Side note, i use a large papercutter to cut the cloth, ruins the blade in the long run(I've cut thousands of square feet on same blade) but saves a ton of time.
In this area Ace has it sometimes and True Value has always had some in stock. Half the time I go out back with them and help cut it. As a result pretty much can get the exact amount I need for a particular project.
Price is irrelevant if you can't find it.
Also the price of gas to drive from one store to the other to price shop would negate any savings. Phone calls are not helpful sometimes as the employee has it in his mind what you are asking but.....when you get there it's really totally different to what you asked.
