New Smoker

Santa brought me a new smoker.:D I finally got that large Dadant smoker that Michael Palmer and Kamon Reynolds talk so highly about. I must say it is a thing of beauty. Very well made and heavier than my flimsy Mann lake smoker. Night and day difference. Mine has the heat shield on it too. The lid fits nice and is not to tight which has always been a problem with my other smoker. Now if spring would just hurry up and get here.;)

I’ve had nothing but dadants, had a ML w/ plastic bellows given to me. After trying to light it a couple times I passed it along to someone else in the fruitcake tradition lol.
I just mailed one-off, to my free giveaway winner:) I have one also, make sure the 4 nuts on the bellows are tight.
I had a round top smoker once. I hated it so much...How much did you hate it? I hated it so much that I ran it over with my truck, and then put the truck in reverse and backed over it to make sure it was dead.

:lpf:
Whats with those round tops anyway? Mine looks forlorn sitting up on the shelf in the garage...This year I ordered a big one from Kelly; then I ordered one from Betterbee with a solid shield, and forgot I already had ordered the first one! So now have 2 new smokers.

I've never seen a smoker that wasn't round ? Does somebody make them square ???

Yes Groz. I meant dome top. :)

I even don't know how many smokers I have...
My BM smoker has a small hole in the bellows. It still works, and I dont use a smoker very often when working the bees, but my next one will be the Dadant. Quality is worth every penny.

So do these Company’s like Dadant and Kelly’s make their own smokers or order from a manufacturer that supplies to everyone with different grades of smokers?
Haha I was drinking something when I ran across Michael Palmers domed smoker bit. I nearly sprayed Laurel with water when I saw it!

I dont know how many hive tools I have, I don't think I am in double digits yet, but I am getting close.

I do tend to focus on other stuff and misplace my hive tools a lot.

Ok Mike, what didn't you like?
Is this like the old Ford vs Chevy debate?
Jack, I suspect it is more like the question, "would you ever own (or be caught dead in) a Pacer or a Gremlin"?
It had no HUFFFF
No huffin or puffin for that thing. But it must have been fun, maybe even feeling a little gleeful, running that thing over, because we love and enjoy beekeeping right? So quoting the Beach Boys, Fun Fun Fun, they got that right.
Congrats.
I've only had can and bellows. Dadant. No heat protective shield. +-20 years.
Lately, (last few years) am smoking only when my hives turn defensive, which thankfully so far is only when one is queenless.
Caution: I've seen where some beeks will hold a shielded smoker between their legs. If you take up that habit, ya may want to make sure ya don't go back to un-shielded.
Just saying.
This is interesting because I have a dome top one and love it compared to the other but I don't know the brand of either so maybe it's not the top that is different but just quality of design based on brand.
