I don't get stung a lot, but in 50+ years I have been stung just about every where you can get stung! But yesterday I (or the bee rather) found a new place and it kind of hurt. I was walking on a lawn full of clover in my sandals thinking about how many people worry too much about getting stung. A bee got under my foot on the up stroke and got me on the bottom of my foot on the down stroke. I was surprised about two things. 1, that she managed to get through that rather thick skin, and 2, it really hurt. If I hadn't found and scraped out the stinger I would have thought it was a wasp or some thing else. Oh well one more thing off my bucket list! On the up side it has been a good harvest so far this year. Now if I can just get some goldenrod honey for my customers with fall allergies.

I was probbly 10...playing outside barefooted and a bumblebee got me right tween the toes. Walked a mile home limping with the stinger still in there so I know now I got the whole dose. Not to be facetious but..... "I feel your pain!" LOL

When wearing sandals in high clover; your toes are the heads of a combine, the clover is stalks of corns, and the bees are the ears of corn that you are harvesting. That's always how I have thought of it.

If the stinger was still there, it most likely was a honeybee. Bumbles do not have a barbed stinger and can sting multiple times.

New to beekeeping this year and I've been stung 11 times so far! I HATE being stung in the head! Nothing worse than hearing a bee buzzing in my hair only to get stung. My grandson (he's 5) is also a beekeeper. He's only been stung once. He learned you don't pet a bees butt! Tells me I'm a 1/2 beekeeper because I've been stung so many times and he's a full beekeeper cause he's bee stung only once. lol

Jonathan has his own veil and full beekeeping suit/with veil. Wouldn't purposely put him in harms way. He got his sting the first day when bees were super gentle and he had the opportunity to touch the bees butt. I have a veil, I just don't want to have to rely on it all the time when I'm outside of the hive. I don't go inside the hive without veil, jacket & gloves though. My stings have slowed down since I learned that. :)
