Hello everyone, what a cool place! I love forums, no better place to get real info, not ads.
Its funny how things just fall into place sometimes.
I stumbled across this website from BYC, after getting a couple of chickens.
Then after reading that its possible to keep bees(never thought about it), decided that I would try it out! So I go to a local AG event around here and I met a beekeeper. Nice guy, would have talked for hours if we could. He gives me his number, I call him a few days latter, he gives me the number of a guy even more local to me. I call this guy(spoke to his wife), turns out he gives a free class once a month(which I made a reservation) and loves to share info/teach. He sells equipment too. So the class is at the end of the month!
So yesterday I stopped by my Uncle's house and he tells me he has a bee hive in his shed, says its been there for over a year. So we go out to look..... WOW...Tons of bees going in and out. So as we are checkin it out, we can hear bees all through the wall(12X8). He is tellin me, "don't get close, you will get stung" as the bees are landing on me and flying away. They seem really docile.
So, now, what to do???? I am on a very tight budget. I have a shop vac(to build a bee-vac), wood working tools and a huge desire to save these bees. Any suggestions?
Anyone want to help me out? Have extra Equipment.
I have a 4 acre piece of land I want to put it on in Oviedo, right off 417 and 434.
Thanks!
