Hello, from Georgetown, from a new beekeeper. A friend/neighbor and I are struggling with a hive, just combined with one that had wax moth invasion. Now we have hive beetles, and are trying a couple of different traps....It's always something! We have a local beekeeper who is mentoring us, and an active group in the area. Glad to find a forum to see what is happening with other folks!

Welcome, try closing down your entrance. Jamie Ellis, at the University of Florida, did a study that showed improved production from hives with reduced entrances. If you are running screened bottom boards ventilation is not a problem. Keeping them crowded so they have less to defend from intruders helps too. Wait until a super is 80 percent full before adding another.
