I am not sure of the whole situation but yes, the bees will give the boot to their sisters that have been smashed or damaged during an inspection. I usually push all of the frames to one end of the hive and then remove the first frame completely. Lean it up against the outside of the hive and that gives you room to work. Then put that frame back last when you are done. Pulling frames straight up out of the hive will "roll" the bees and beat them up pretty good. I hope this helps.
