Any good ways to mow around a hive? I was about 10 yards away yesterday and started to get tagged. I decided that was not a good idea.

Do it early in the morning when there are only a few bees coming and going. I wear a long sleeved shirt, pull a veil over my head and use the string trimmer.

Hello I'm a new bee keeper and have 2 hives. I mow weekly and weed wack right up to my hives with no issues but I do this in the morning before 1100 figuring most of the bees will be out. I don't hesitate just move in and do it and leave. Have not been tagged yet ( knock on wood). Jamie mid Maine

I have my colonies spaced so the lawn tractor fits between them. Drive thru twice, once each way so I can trim right up to the stand on each side, and leave next to nothing left to clean up with the trimmer. Mowed the yard 5 or 6 times now, just finished about an hour ago. I've never been bothered by the bees while mowing, except the occaisional one coming home fast that bumps into me on the way by. Haven't been stung while mowing yet.

Early in the morning works best, during a spring flow even better. My bees get very defensive mid to late summer, and will follow me around the yard after I make a pass near the hives.

Dusk does NOT work. 11 stings proves this is the troof. Using weed killer now.

I use a scythe. In the evening.
