I recently saw a picture on here of someone's apiary and they had their benches of hives at about a 45 degree angle. I realized that this was so that they all get sun at sunrise - not just the first skyscraper on the block!
I have one of my hives due West of another. Can I move the bench that these two hives are on - really just scootching one end of the bench - about 12 inches to the South to give that hive full morning sun too?
I don't want to set the progress of these bees back, they're doing fine. I just think this would help them.
Yes. Even for us old died in the wool old farts the rule has always been 2 feet or 2 miles nothing in between. in fact you can move then 24 inches every few days until you have done a complete circle if you like
I've moved them several feet different times. There'll be a good many bees flying around the old spot for awhile but around dark they'll go in somewhere.
I'm going to move everything in my yard this year. I love the way it looks out the window with bees flying everywhere, but my kids want to "play" in the yard (can't have anything nice with these kids around!) I've generally been moving just a couple feet, but I'm sure I could move a little more if I wanted to. The other part of the yard doesn't have great morning sun, so I'm dragging my feet a little on this. Once it heats up the kids will forget all about playing in the yard.
