I placed my hives in the edge of the wooded area on my lot when I installed the packages eariler this spring, they are in the shade most of the day. I am planning on moving them about twenty yards where they will be in the sun the most of the day, my question is what would be the best time of the day to do this, do I need to close off the entrance when I move them and after they are all moved open them back up. I have three hives to move.

I moved hives this year. I closed them up at daybreak and moved them to the new spot. I then placed some pine straw in the opening but only enough to block the open flight path but not to much to keep them in. I left it there for most of the day as long as its not too hot. I had a few go back to the old location but not more than a few hundred.

I followed Michael Bush's example on moving hives.

I moved 2 hives after sun down. I saw no bees at the old site which may have been 100' away.
