you're right, for some it is a 'macho' thing. and some people just are very comfortable with the bees and have enough experience to know when they can work the bees without protection and when they can't.
the 'macho' ones are good for a laugh though, usually because they put on such a show before they get it handed to them. lol
BTW, hope your mom wasn't too hurt by the girls. I have seen similar situations where there just is no helping some folks.
