Since switching to foundationless, I have noticed the drones are huge. Does anyone know if there is research on the impact of drone size? Are bigger drones better? Do they have more sperm? Does it not matter? Curious since they are beefy.
Heather, do not know if the drones themselves are larger, mine have always been huge, but the drone cells drawn on my foundationless frames seem to be larger and much more numerous that when I was using foundation. Not a problem as most are now filled with nectar, as they should be. Very happy with decision to go foundationless and my combs are straighter. Of course, the combs on my Acorn plastic foundation in my supers are perfect.
