Anyone have any experience with using MDF for inner cover material? I usually build them with plywood inserts but I've got a spare sheet of 1/4" MDF I was thinking of using. Have it all cut out and ready to go but then got a little worried that it's going to swell up like a marshmallow when it absorbs moisture.

Thanks,
Matt

I made a few and as you know there are better choices in material for innercovers. They do absorb moisture. They swell. When propolized to the box they can easily fall/break apart or when wet.
If you're looking for a temp. hive part or need it in a pinch (right now) make it.
Mine are 2 yrs. old, beaten up and may not last till spring with all the winter condensation. But like you I had the stuff sitting in the shop and at the time I needed some IC asap.

Sounds like you've got the exact experience I needed to hear. I appreciate the information. I think I'll set the MDF back and make a Home Depot run for plywood tomorrow.

Thanks,
Matt
