Maxant 1400 ball bearing size?

4774 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  whix
I am missing (lost) the ball bearing that the basket reel sits on in the bottom of my Maxant 1400 extractor.

I told my wife I am blaming her. She said she never even goes in my honey house, how could I blame her. I told her, "I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you".

I know I could order one from Maxant but that would take too long..., does anyone know the size?

My wife's always misplacing my stuff! I work in a machine shop so lots of mystery parts to deal with! Can you measure where the bearing o.d. Lives? Can you measure I.d.? Then you measure it's thickness and if it's like most mass produced bearing, probably pretty industry standard ie: not a lot of choices and should be at a hardware store or a specialty fastener store. So o.d of bearing seat( what it fits in) and inside diameter of bearing or outside of shaft( hole in center of bearing) the bearings thickness also measured by depth of seat( what bearing sit in) and bobs your uncle! Hope this helps ! If not it's my wife's fault!!
In many extractors, the "bearing" is simply a large steel ball setting loose in a depression (hole) that holds the ball in place. The bottom end of the central shaft simply rides on top of this large ball. The ball can be expected to fall out if you turn the extractor upside down. Somewhat different than a conventional ball bearing with a series of small balls surrounding a raceway.

The Maxant 3100 extractor uses a 1/2" steel ball, as can be seen at the bottom of this page:

It may be that Maxant uses the same size ball for all their extractors - I don't know. But you could see what happens with a 1/2" ball and go from there. If you have a local source of large stainless balls available, I'd buy a few larger sizes starting at 1/2" and try them.
Email them they usually answer quick and I would not be surprised if they answered on a weekend. Also PM MAXANT he is always on the forum. Unless he is on his boat. Wonder if he has a boat.

He may be on Barry's boat!
1/2 stainless is the size, same one we use on the 3100.

Boat.......nope.
Prefer the land and 4 tires.

See I told you he would answer on a weekend. Gotta have faith in the land lubber.
Thanks for the answer(s).

My wife said to get two, she doesn't want to be blamed again!
