Making a split with a virgin queen. Who else would have done it?

I was checking a hive this afternoon and it was loaded with swarm cells. Big, nice, fat capped queen cells. I have figured out enough in my 2nd spring to know that I don't know anything. Reversing hive bodies once doesn't prevent swarming. Check that one off the list.....

At any rate, I'm looking for the queen, looking or eggs, trying to figure out if they had swarmed already. As I was looking for eggs or young larvae, out of the corner of my eye I see a virgin queen come streaking across the frame somewhere just under mach 1. I don't know if she was on the hunt for queen cells or if she had just hatched, or what. At any rate, with the other queen cells still in place I decided to pull the frame she was on and make a split. I put the frame she was on and 2 more frames of bees and brood in a nuc. So, was this rookie mistake 2,347 for me or a good idea?
