Stopped in my local Lowes to pick up a few items. Thought I'd walk through paint and see if they had any mistints. I just made 15 deep nuc boxes and they needed to be painted. They just happened to have a 5 gal bucket of Valspar exterior in an off white for $25.00. That in itself was a great price for 5 gals. of quality paint. When I checked out the cashier told me not to forget to apply for the mfg. rebate online. Got a $40 rebate on my $25 of paint. Thanks Lowes and Valspar!

There are short term costs and long term ones. In this case you scored on the first one. No doubt. As per the long term you will know in 10 years if the elbow grease cost of the paint was "worth the price" if you need to scrap, sand, and repaint. My goal on paint is a dollar a year per gallon. Forty dollar paint still looks like it did 15 years ago. Little dull but the coverage and adhesion is spot on and will be for another 20 years. When it comes to 10 dollar paint......... well. lets say either my elbow or the burn pile will feel the heat on that junk.

Not sure what your point is with the $40 paint. The normal price for the 5 gal. was $150.00. The rebate was $40.

Wow. Valspar may not honor the rebate due to purchase price. Usually reciepts are sent in too. At any rate you got a killer deal, $25 is less than a gallon price.

I doubt you'll use a full gallon on your boxes. What do you plan on doing with the other 4 gallons? Was it duramax?

If you're ever in a Sherman Williams paint store, you may want to ask them about any miss tinted paint. They sell theirs for $3 a gallon. However, they usually don't offer a rebate, so it sounds like you got a great deal!

I bought some of the Valspar paint for another project and on the rebate form it does say it can not be used for mis-tints. If they do honor the rebate lets us know.

The rebate was an online one. No paperwork. I got an email today from Lowes saying my rebate was processed and gave me the tracking number. Who knows. It could be the old check is in the mail thing.

Win. Win. Nice.

I went to Loew's looking for Oops paint. Saw two 5 gallon buckets of Valspar marked $75.00 each. Asked the paint guy what's the best he could do if I took both. Was hoping for $5.00/gallon. He whipped out his Smart Phone. Played w/ it a while. Said the best he could do was $10.00/gallon. Maybe I should have walked away, but I figured that getting there was hard enough and who knows whether they would be there a cpl days later or a week later or what. So I took them. Still a 2/3 discount off the original price.

Can you reply back to that email? It is computer generated. You might get lucky dealing with a mega corporation. Maybe you will get a store credit. I suspect you will frequent the store again and drop more than forty over time on something else. You have already advertised for them on a public forum. They couldn't do that for anywhere near forty dollars.
