I lost both my hives this year in Alberta. Bad winter with warm temperatures in January and extreme cold in February. I am assuming condensation was the cause? When I opened them up there appeared to be a blue/ green mold on them. What do you think? I have talked to a few other beeks and they have had heavy losses as well.
Thank you.

They'll tend to grow mold once the colony dies and there's no longer any warmth in the hive to move the moisture around. There are a number of reasons why colonies die, but it's typically not because of cold weather.
