3 weeks ago my hives were running low on stores. I had a feeder shim on with mountain camp. One of my hives died earlier in the year so I had a fair amount of honey left over. I didn't want to be super intrusive in the colder temperatures so instead of removing the feeder shim I just set the box of honey on top of it. What could go wrong it's wintertime after all? Well I checked the bees yesterday and they filled every square inch of that feeder rim between the boxes with comb and tons of drones. I am guessing they took the honey and converted it to fresh comb??? Nothing is blooming yet. Anyway the lesson is not to create any space even in winter because they will find a way to fill it.
