My sister and I were discussing beekeeping and though she is very interested in it, hasn't the time for it. She has 7 acres in the Santa Barbara estates, California that she would like to offer to someone who needs to place some hives. It's currently open land on a slope with some fruit trees and surrounded by lots of buckwheat, eucalyptus and large open estate properties with some orchards. Let me know if you are interested and i will put you in contact with her.

I wish you were in San Diego County, I've been looking for some land to place hives... Someone is sure to take you up on it, might list a craigslist add as well if you don't get an answer from here.

Contacting a local bee club maybe the more secure approach.

Ha! My dad lives in Ramona. He would probably oblige if you trade him some honey-he is also an entomologist by hobby and will probably be interested in offering help... He has 24 and a half acres above the estates close to a bog and his neighbor has a big seasonal pond, plus my dad has a little toad pond. Anyway, there is water around. I will pm you with his email.

I live in Santa Barbara but I don't know where Santa Barbara Estates is. How far from downtown would you say this is?
Thanks!

I will check her address tomorrow and let you know. I don't think it's officially called the estates, but it is a huge neighborhood of mansions and estates right on the coast with its own beach and everything a little north of downtown. I'll give you a heads up on distance from town. where she is situated is a nice area for bees I think.
