Being this will be my first attempt with bees, and am in an area where temps will be in 20's/ 30's at night until late may, and having read that wax production is minimal in cooler temps....just a thought here...but could a person put a small greenhouse(with an opening) over the hive for a few weeks to help keep temps up? would this help at all or just a waste of time? Probably a waste of time. They will handle the cold nights. I prefer to start them in a five frame nuc so they can more easily keep things warm when they are starting out. They usually outgrow it in four weeks or less but they can easily keep it warm.
