I installed several packages on foundation today and I'm planning to experiment with keeping some of the Carniolans in Single Deeps as opposed to two. After they build up to where I would normally add another deep hive body, I'm going to add a super of drawn comb over a queen excluder.
Yes, I know that they are more apt to starve in winter or swarm in the spring so it will require a different management approach. But I have a friend who is successful with this so I'm going to try it with a few hives.
Anyone else successful with running bees in singles? If so, I would appreciate any suggestions you might hive.
Thanks...
