I just drove home with a package of bees, and it is dark already and plan to install it tomorrow. It is very windy outside and low is 40F. Should I keep the package overnight inside our heated house, or in our unheated basement? At any rate, I will put them in a dark and quiet location. Let me know your opinion. Thanks a lot.

I would put them in the basement overnight. And install as soon as practical. Cold temperatures is not necessarily a bad time to install as the bees will be inclined to stay in the hive instead of flying.

I picked up some packages and was told to keep them sheltered outdoors if I couldn't install when I got home.

Ideal storage for a package would be about 50 F. They stay less active and calmer. Dark is also helpful at keeping them calm. I prefer the basement in the dark.
