Now halfway through our 3rd WEEK (!) of beekeeping, a swam showed up in our apple tree this afternoon! We gathered some unused equipment and got them hived with frames that have some old drawn comb.

What can we do to make them feel right at home? (have reduced entrance with some grass and given them an outside boardman feeder, but will replace with an inside feeder tomorrow when more equipment arrives.)

So far you have done everything right Just feed feed feed maybe some honey b-healthy in the fluid. Leave them along and the smaller entrance is a good idea.

the experienced beek who has been helping me spays the foundation or drawn comb with sugar water. Also sprays the swarm with it a few minutes before collecting it up.
I also try to put a feeder on top of the swamrs as soon as the lid goes on.

don't know if its one thing or all of them but So far 3 hives collected and not moved to a new location have all stayed in the hive. I do make sure to orrientate the entrance in a different direction from the parent colonies.
