Does anyone leave the jar feeder hole (if you're using inner covers that have them that is) open for extra ventilation? I've been closing mine up as I have a small 1 inch notch in the inner cover ... but wondering if I might be better off just leaving it wide open?

I should note that the hole in my covers is round, the size of a mason jar lid.

If there is no jar in mine, that are always open. How do you close yours up? I too have a notch in the cover for ventilation/entance/exit.

I've just been putting the lid of the jar in the hole to cover it up ... but sounds like i should just leave it open! I was wondering if it might be too large a hole and could contribute to chilling brood however.

I just lay a small piece of #8 screen over my feeder holes so I get the ventilation but keep the bees out of the tops. I run a quiltbox year around on my hives ( full in the wintertime and empty in the summer ) so I put the screen on to keep the bees out of the box.
