I installed a new nucleus hive on Saturday. It had 5 very heavy frames of bees and brood in all stages, with a good amount ready to emerge. Not a lot of honey/nectar, but we are in the middle of the flow and they are busy. i installed them in an 8-frame deep. I generally run all mediums. When should I add another medium box? Should I wait until the three other frames are drawn, or since we are in our flow right now should i just go ahead and add it now?

Thanks!

If its drawn comb you are adding you can go ahead now, I think. If it's foundation, wait until the put something in two of those frames with foundation. Shouldn't take long if you have a good flow going.

You won't get a large increase in bee population for at least three weeks, so don't be in too much of a hurry to add space.
