Hi,

I have just gotten my first hives. I bought 2 existing hives from a guy that was moving. They are strong and are 2 ten frame supers each. They only have a top board with a cleat and they are both starting to cup from the elements. I bought two telescoping covers that came with inner covers.

Question is, do I need them. Should I use them? Are they only a winter thing?

Well, since you got them already might as well use them.
At least it is better than the cleat migratory cover. You can
definitely try out both to see which one you like the most. The
bees won't mind as long as they are warm and safe.

Inner covers are used year round (unless you use a migratory cover). IC are not just for winter use.
