At the advise of a longtime beekeeper, we have set up our all medium (we have no deeps) hives in the following order (from ground up):
Bottom board
1 med. with empty frames
1 med. w/ the 5 nuc frames and 5 empty frames
Inner cover
1 empty med. super for feeding
Outer cover

Thoughts? I understand that 2 mediums = 1 deep for the colony “housing”. But should we flip the 2 lower boxes so that the one with empty frames is above the more full one or does it not matter as it is acting like one deep?

Remove the bottom empty box until the top box is 80% drawn. Bees do better when they have just the right amount of room. Don't forget to keep feeding them until they draw out both boxes.

2 medium = 1.5 deep.
