I robbed some of my bees today. Some of my hives had five honey supers on them. There now seems to be not enough room in the hive for all the bees and they are bearding out the front of the hive. What am I supposed to do about this? Since they are now so crowded are they going to swarm?
Some of my frames were partially capped and some not capped at all. And when the frames were shaken the nectar flew out of the comb like water. I have been told that you can place the frames over an inner cover and the bees will carry it down. But does that assume there is room in the hive for the honey?
So you would put 10 frames over an inner cover. How long would it take the bees to clean up the frames? I guess it might depend on how strong the hive is and how hungry they are and if there is room below. I guess they could start storing nectar above too which is something I wouldn’t want to happen. Would it be better to extract and feed the bees in a top feeder? Or should I extract and either freeze or refrigerate the nectar for the family to use?
