I am starting my second year with bees this year. I use all mediums i guess for two reasons. I won the hive and that is how it came and I like having everything the same size. My bees did great last year and seem to be doing well so far this year.

I have taken some classes in college and I have taken some classes here locally with Central Virginia Beekeepers Association and Buckingham Bee Club.

I am looking on expanding my apiary this year with one maybe two hives. We'll see how the money flow is!

Look forward to participating in some discussions when i can!

Welcome to Beesource!

You might just find some free bees for a second hive by establishing some swarm traps. Another option is to split your existing hive. Either purchase a queen or let them raise a new queen.

Welcome -- I used to live west of you in Faber, but now in Botetourt county. Sounds like you made a wise investment in some learning as you started!
If you need to buy your second hive, Valley Bee Supply over Afton at Fishersville has some compelling prices and would be worth the trip.
