Retired single guy 3rd year beekeeper located just west of Marlin,TX.
Started out with 2 purchased nucs and went into this summer with 5 hives with the increase from swarm captures. I do believe 2 of the swarms were from my own hive. The third swarm is definitely different - smaller, lighter color and very active.
One of the captures struggled during our considerable drought this summer and the robbing was out of control in late august and September. The weak hive was targeted extensively and absconded late September.
My 4 remaining hives are chock full of bees and honey stores and look to have a good run at the early nectar flow )knocks on wood(
I visited many bee forums early on looking for an internet home. I cannot abide internet commandos and found plenty of unfounded and erroneous info presented as truth of biblical importance at the other places. I *only* frequent Beesource now. I certainly appreciate the 'been there-done that' expertise found here.
Welcome to Beesource. I'd say 4 out of 5 is not bad at all. Best of success to you with your apiary efforts, and we'll look forward to your contributions on here.
Welcome to Beesource. Erroneous misinformation is usually called out pretty quickly by the knowlegeable and exerienced among us. We do encourage experimentation and some alternative beekeeping styles, but these discussions are clearly indicated in their sub forum and thread titles.
Hello fellow Central Texan (Burnet County), I'm new to this forum and relatively new (year and a half) to beekeeping. Looking forward to communicating with beekeepers from the general area.
