I need to move the hive about 30 feet. Its in some scrub oak trees. Also is it best to face the entrance a certain direction? I've read its best to have some morning sun and then partial shade during the day.

Thanks! First year beekeeper. 1TB hive is all.

I'd do it in early morning; then put a few branches near your landing board. If you have no other hives drift will be nil.

30' id just move it. I did 6 moves a couple weeks ago. moved them at night. next day had a few lost bees but by day two they were back to normal. as far as the sun my hive that are in the sun seem to have less mites and SHBs then my shaded ones also seem to be more productive them the shaded ones.
I tried at first to point them all at the morring sun, but watching my bees, they all start coming out about the same time. maybe be for colder days but at here 80deg in the morning I don't think it matters.

oh I moved my 6 hives 50 foot
