I've read that bees prefer to find locations for their nests in the shade. Do you find this to be true in your experience? The spot I had planned for my trap on my property is in sun most of the day...

How much does that hurt my chances?

Thanks.

I've also had bees move into empty hives that were in the sun. The old hives didn't meet most of the criteria everyone thinks is important:

1) they were too close to the ground.
2) they were too much volume.
3) they were in the sun.
4) they had too big of an opening (one of them had no bottom board...)

But they had some things that are irreplacable... they smelled like home and had drawn comb...

I place most of mine in full sun. Thirty plus catches last year, about ten so far this year. The biggest in the shade so far this year, a full brood chamber full. The biggest last year in full sun, about the same size. (See fishbox video)
Oh, another big one in partial shade this year. ( See Gargantua video in the My swarm is bigger than your swarm thread)
